Gary Wofsey studied several different musical instruments and composition from a very early age. He led various bands through grade school and majored in music composition at Berklee College of Music in Boston.
In the early 1970s, Gary traveled with the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra. In 1978, Wofsey settled in New York and formed a 13-piece Jazz Orchestra. The Jazz Orchestra recorded several albums that featured some of the best jazz musicians in New York City. Many of the Orchestra’s recordings were found on the Top Ten of countless jazz radio stations throughout the United States and Canada.
In 1982, Gary relocated to Japan, where he formed an all-Japanese jazz orchestra that was very popular in Tokyo. In 1990, he appeared in a series of concerts in Hawaii with the Maui Symphony Orchestra as guest performer/conductor/composer. He returned to the New York area in 1993 and began rehearsing and performing with a jazz orchestra that was mostly comprised of young jazz artists.
Upon meeting Jill, the couple became co-leaders of a new jazz orchestra based in New York City. Today, the Wofseys live in Northwest Florida, where they co-lead a 13-piece big band that is based in Pensacola. The Orchestra has been performing new compositions by the Wofseys, as they prepare for a video recording project. Jill & Gary play and sing popular standards, such as “All Of Me,” “Laura,” “They Can’t Take That Away From Me” and “Where Or When.”
